Wellbeing

We are committed to supporting the physical and mental wellbeing of our Employees. We offer health insurance to all established employees across the group, covering primary care, minor and critical care and provide an annual dental, optician and therapies allowance.

In 2018, we signed the Guernsey Employment Trust (GET) Employment Charter. We continue to work closely with GET to provide work experience placements, most of which have resulted in offers of permanent employment.

We have invested in Mental Health First Aider Training with Guernsey Mind, and MHFA’s are available to all staff across the group. We also have a MHFA situated at each of our sites in the UK.

We often host group activities to boost wellbeing among our team, but also encourage friendly rivaly among our team; in aid of Mental Health Awareness Month in June, our UK sites competed in a step challenge. Prizes were awarded to our top individual stepper and top stepping team to encourage healthy habits.

Our staff also have access to a wellbeing programme, offering support, advice, and guidance on a wide range of mental health issues. This includes an app offering wellbeing plans to help make lifestyle changes, wellbeing resources from informative articles and podcasts, and fitness classes and recipes aimed to improve your wellbeing.

Training

We actively invest in each of our employees to challenge and develop their interests and skillsets and support them on their chosen career path. The waste management and recycling industry is swiftly changing in response to global sustainability challenges: we are keeping pace with those changes through continual investment in learning and development.

As well as mandatory health and safety, environmental awareness and job-specific training we offer a variety of entry level, vocational and management training opportunities including fixed and mobile plant tickets, vehicle and ELV depollution, HGV driver training, welding, supervisory and management qualifications.

Our managers, supervisors, and and those in trainee management positions are encouraged to undertake CIWM waste and recycling qualifications at Levels 2, 3 and 4. Staff with sufficient experience have the option of undertaking additional specialisms in areas such as hazardous waste, health and safety, environmental management, quality management and internal auditing.

Whatever your starting point in waste management, we can offer you a career path.
